1930. The age of the automobile-one for every working man. This is when Barron Motor Supply started business in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was a business that began with one store and the ideas of one man-William J. Barron.
Western Auto Supply started business in 1929. One of their employees, W.J. Barron, felt he could make a go of it, and made an offer to buy, incorporating June of 1930. Sometimes making a go of it meant going door to door, driving to reach customers, selling what ever automotive parts were needed at the time; California tops, motor minders, heaters, bumpers...this was nearly 75 years and 14 locations ago, and we are still seeing the continued growth of his company.
The maxim by which W.J. succeeded is simple: "Quality of lines, plus desire and ability to serve". As we enter the new millennium, we often find both quality of product and customer service to be in short supply everywhere we go. Still, we see the results of applying these rules in daily business. Customers come and stay; leave and return.
The business is now run by W.J.'s son, William J. Barron Jr. -"Bid"- and his grandsons, William J. Barron III - "Bill" - and John R. Barron. In July 1999, Barron Motor Supply was ranked by Automotive Marketing, in the top 100 auto parts store chains in the nation. Through war, recession, and three family generations of management, this business has exhibited the ability to provide the parts needed to keep our automobiles on the road. By accessing new customers and giving our existing customers our personal best, we intend to keep succeeding!
